Student Advocacy Day

Every year, hundreds of community college students from across Maryland board buses and head for Annapolis. They come to advocate for strong state support of the community college mission ⇒ providing affordable access to quality higher education, and preparing the workforce for careers that keep Maryland businesses, schools, emergency services, and infrastructure running.

Students apply to be part of their college’s Advocacy Day delegation, and the competition can be tough. Selected students meet face-to-face with elected officials and share personal stories about ways community college has empowered their futures.

The 2025 Student Advocacy Day Kickoff was held on Thursday, February 13, 2025 at the Governor Calvert House in Annapolis, Maryland.

Inclement Weather Policy

• MACC follows Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ (AACPS) weather-related decisions for Advocacy Day.
• If AACPS cancels school, the Student Advocacy Day Kickoff event will be canceled.
• If AACPS calls for a virtual day, the Student Advocacy Day Kickoff event will be canceled.
• If AACPS has a delayed opening, the Student Advocacy Day Kickoff event will go on as originally scheduled.
• In the event of inclement weather, and AACPS does not modify public K-12 school schedules, each college will make its own determination about road safety and traveling to Annapolis.
