Honors Students

G.P.A. and PTK — Is community college for you?

Academic honors programs at community colleges are growing in popularity and enrollment. Most (—All??confirm—) of Maryland’s 16 community colleges offer at least one honors program, and some offer more.

If you are a highly accomplished student, and unsure whether community college will be challenging and fulfilling enough for you, you should inquire about your local community college’s honors program.

Honors programs enrich the college experience through rigorous curriculums, leadership and service opportunities, as well as cultural experiences. These enrichment opportunities will help to distinguish your transcript and application when you transfer to a four-year college or university.

Students’ eligibility is determined using a combination of college placement examination scores, high school or college grade point averages, and/or professor recommendations. Full-time and part-time students are usually eligible, and students may join throughout the year.
