A minimum of $34,440,133 in federal student aid funds was lost in one year as Maryland high school graduates chose not to submit a FAFSA form, the first and most important step in accessing need-based financial aid. 
The actual amount of money left on the table is even higher. The above estimate only includes Pell Grants, just one part of the federal student aid program.
